Happy Blog-iversery

The YSI Blog has been up and running for one full year! Here’s a recap of what YSI has accomplished in that time:

  • Took almost 200 undergraduate advocates from nearly 10 different colleges and universities to Pont Morel to complete service learning expeditions

  • Provided food and water to over 500 families in the three days following Hurricane Matthew, as well as temporary relief housing to those whose homes had been destroyed

  • Redeveloped our clinic structure to increase our capacity to nearly 100 patients per clinic day

  • Discovered a trend in women of Nolivos misusing antibiotics, developed an educational protocol, and immediately responded to the issue-- all led by advocates

  • Obtained approval from Dr. Tony to launch an HIV/AIDs preventive education initiative

  • Launched a new YSI chapter at George Washington University, led by Chloe Becker

Here’s a summary of what we’ve featured on our blog:

  • Seventeen Lives of Leogane articles, featuring stories about local members of the communities we serve in Haiti

  • 20 interviews with our Board members, student leaders, and advocates

  • Three historically-oriented articles written by Frank Schulze, a graduating advocate

  • Six campus profiles about each of the university chapters that consistently recruit new undergraduate advocates

  • Five live accounts of what it’s like to be in Haiti, written by advocates who were there at the time of authoring the stories

  • Two stories detailing how YSI prepared two of our veteran advocates for their long-term study abroad experiences
